| Video: Audi R8 V10 stuns Maranello in new commercial Posted: 14 May 2009 05:28 PM PDT This year, during the Super Bowl, Audi aired a commercial for the new A6 where it mocked Mercedes, BMW and Lexus. Well, now it’s Ferrari’s turn to be Audi’s marketing target, with this commercial where we’re shown a red R8 V10 roaming the streets of Maranello, Ferrari’s hometown, making locals really angry. This commercial’s really creative, way better than the one from the Super Bowl and we really loved it. Enjoy!

| Hyundai working on a Tata Nano rival Posted: 14 May 2009 02:22 PM PDT  It looks like the ultra-cheap cars market is starting to look very attractive to large carmakers, because Auto Express reports that Korean giant Hyundai has already started work on a new ultra cheap car which will address the Indian market and which is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2010. According to Hyundai’s vice president Young Kil Chun, the car will come with a choice of two petrol engines, a 0.8 and a 1 liter, while a small diesel version will be available in Europe. He also added that the car won’t directly compete the Nano, instead it “will expand the automotive market”. We kinda doubt it, especially by looking at the Nano, which seems like it’ll be a big hit. | Skoda Yeti crossover enters production Posted: 14 May 2009 01:54 PM PDT  Skoda has just announced that the first Yeti (which marks the company’s entry into the crossover segment) rolled off the assembly line at Skoda’s plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic on Tuesday, May 12. This first unit was an Aqua Blue, 4WD version powered by a 1,8 liter TSI engine. The Czech company also released a video (you can watch it after the jump) of the final pre-production test drives with took place in the area around Oslo, Norway, area which offers a variety of road surfaces similar to those seen in all European countries, Skoda’s main market for the Yeti. The drivers tested two models, a 1.8 TSI petrol and a 2.0 TDI diesel unit, both with 4WD and the cars were taken on forest roads and on an extreme downhill course where they tested the new downhill assistant function, which enables the driver to go down extremely steep hills. Beside its offroad abilities, the Skoda Yeti includes other useful features, such as the VarioFlex rear seat system which also makes it easy to increase Yeti’s carrying capacity up to 1,760 liters. | Video: Car ends up on a roof after 100 feet jump Posted: 14 May 2009 10:34 AM PDT My God, the things some crazy drivers can do with their cars! According to reports, the 1980 Mitsubishi Colt you see in these video ended up on a roof after its 23 year old driver didn’t make a turn and insted took off a railroad embankment and flew for about 100 feet. The police from Stadtprozelten, the German city where this happened, reports the driver was seriously injured and he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Great stunt man, but you’re damn lucky to be alive! Better be more carful next time. | New Sport XS version added to the Peugeot 4007 UK range Posted: 14 May 2009 10:08 AM PDT  We’re not sure how the Peugeot 4007 sells in the UK, but our guess would be that it’s not going very well. If you ask us, the whole Mitsubishi Outlander/Peugeot 4007/Citroen C-Crosser was a very bad idea, especially for the French car makers. But then again, who are we to judge? Probably to boost up sales a little, Peugeot has announced a new version for the 4007, the Sport XS, which is based on the entry-level SE version and features special leather upholestry, chrome side bars, wing mirror covers and door handles, body-colored front lower and rear roof spoilers, plus twin tailpipe extension and a set of 18 inch alloy wheels. Like we said, it’s based on the SE model, which means it’s powered by the same 2.2 liter diesel delivering 156 hp. These vehicles even have reasonable towing capacity so you could bring a rented storage trailer and ride in un-cramped comfort in the extended cab models. If buying a Toyota Tacoma doesn't appeal to you, consider renting one, with unlimited mileage, from a national car rental business. | 1,000th order placed for the Tesla Model S Posted: 14 May 2009 08:44 AM PDT  On March 26, California based Tesla Motors unveiled the Model S all-electric family sedan and a week later the company reported 520 orders already placed for the car. And now, a month and a half later, the 1,000th order was registered. The Model S’ anticipated base price is $49,000 and potential customers need to pay a $5,000 reservation fee, which is refundable. Though it’s not the cheapest car around, Tesla claims the total cost of ownership is much lower than other similar priced cars and, considering the gasoline’s price per gallon, they claim the Model S is equivalent to a gasoline powered car with a sticker price of about $30,000, like the Ford Taurus, Honda Accord or a BMW 3-Series. They give as an example the Tesla Roadster, which costs $101,500 but a set of factors such as the electricity vs gasoline price or the state and federal tax incentives may result in lifetime savings of at least $26,000 compared to a similar gasoline powered sports car. “The Model S is a better value than much cheaper conventional cars,” said Tesla CEO, Chairman and Product Architect Elon Musk. “Despite the enormous environmental benefits, lower total cost of ownership will soon become the primary motivation for consumers to evolve from gas guzzlers to EVs.” Photo Gallery: Tesla Model S

| The last Ferrari F430 to go to action and help the Abruzzo earthquake victims Posted: 14 May 2009 07:47 AM PDT  Ferrari has announced that the last F430 to leave the production line, later this year, will be a special edition dedicated to the Abruzzo region in Italy, devasted by the earthquake on April 6th which killed more than 90 people and left tens of thousands without a home. The car will be unveiled at the RM Auction this coming Sunday and it will go to auction, with all the proceeds going to the Abruzzo local authorities, to help reconstruct the region. The special F430 will feature a special two-tone paint finish which pays a tribute to the traditional colors of Aquila, the city most devastated. The auction winner will be invited to Maranello to choose the final specs for the car and will also get a certificate signed by Ferrari’s boss, Luca di Montezemolo, with a personalised dedication plate. I don’t know about you, but I appreciate Ferrari a lot for what they’re doing here. It’s sad to see the F430 (one of company’s most successful cars ever) production coming to an end, but the fact that they chose to help the victims of the earthquake makes the car’s ending very, very glorious. And we respect Ferrari a lot for that, especially considering the auction will probably bring in houndreds of thousands for the needy! | Mercedes Benz delivers the first E Class Coupe Posted: 14 May 2009 07:29 AM PDT  Siegfried Möller, a 56 year old German from Bremen, is the lucky man to be the first customers that gets his brand new Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe. This is the first E Coupe delivered since its market launch and the new owner was handed the keys by Peter Schabert, manager of the Mercedes plant in Bremen, which is the only place where the model is being manufactured. Schabert said: “The new E-Class Coupé is manufactured exclusively at our Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen. I am therefore extremely pleased to be personally handing the key to the first owner today. The E-Class Coupé is an exciting vehicle - I am sure that its new owner will enjoy it from the very first kilometre.” Möller, which has been a loyal Mercedes customer for the past 25 years, owns the Hermann Möller joinery firm and has chosen an E500 Coupe in palladium silver with an AMG Sports package and a lot of other optional extras such as the COMAND multimedia system or the Intelligent Light System package. He said: “I have been driving Mercedes-Benz vehicles for over 25 years and my father was also a Mercedes customer. Now I’m looking forward to driving my new E 500 Coupé for the first time.” Well, I bet you do, cause it’s a terrific car. | The new Opel/Vauxhall Astra officially unveiled Posted: 13 May 2009 07:24 AM PDT  After last month we showed you the first official photo of the new Opel/Vauxhall Astra, today we got the official press release and more photos of Opel’s new car. Like we noticed before, the new generation’s styling is heavily influenced by the new Insignia, fact confirmed by Opel officials. "We're continuing with the same premium design cues as the Insignia, inside and out of the car," said Mark Adams, Vice President of GM Europe Design. "However, the main design themes, like the wing-shaped light signatures and the blade, needed an individual execution to avoid 'cloning' the model ranges. This is why, for instance, you see twin wings in the rear lights and a reversed blade on its flanks." The new Astra is larger than the current generation, with a 4.4 metre-length body, an all-new chassis with a 71 millimetre-longer wheelbase, wider tracks front and rear feature, as does a new rear axle design, which not only improves stability and agility, but also increases passengers’ comfort. The new Astra also comes equipped with the FlexRide system, which offers drivers three damper settings (standard, sport and tour) while being fully adaptive to changes in driving style and cornering speed. Unique in this sector will be the Astra's optional, latest generation AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting), which features bi-xenon lighting that changes its intensity and reach to suit prevailing road conditions. A similar system was introduced on the Insignia, and is now recognised as one of the most advanced systems available. The highlight of the new Astra's powertrain lineup is the introduction of an all-new, 140 hp turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit. Beside this engine, three further petrol engines, which range from 100 hp to 180 hp, and four diesel engines ranging from 95 hp to 160 hp will be available. "The only part of the Astra which isn't new is its name," said Andy Gilson, Vauxhall's Marketing Director. "And that name currently accounts for around 30 per cent of all Vauxhall's car sales, with the five-door hatch taking 60 per cent of those sales alone – so it's important to lead with this body style. Not only is the Astra a crucial new model for Vauxhall, but we're confident that its blend of dynamic design, new-to-class technology and immense driver appeal will attract an even broader spectrum of buyers in this sector." | The first problems for the new Camaro: GM recalls V8 powered units due to battery cable issue Posted: 07 May 2009 10:53 AM PDT  The new Chevrolet Camaro is an amazing car, but it looks like it’s not perfect yet. Because GM has announced the V8 powered units will be recalled due to a problem to a battery cable.
GM advises all Camaro owners to take their cars to a dealership asap. Though a permanent fix will be available by May 11, customers can either choose to have a temporary fix made to the car, or leave the car at the dealer and get courtesy transportation. | Seat surprises everyone and unveils the Ibiza Bocanegra production version in Barcelona Posted: 07 May 2009 10:12 AM PDT  In what comes as a huge surprise, Seat has announced the debut of the Seat Ibiza Bocanegra production version, during the press days at the Barcelona International Motor Show. The Bocanegra Concept was first unveiled last year at the Geneva Motor Show and it previewed the new generation Ibiza. However, nobody was expecting the car, which looked awesome, to make it into production. The car, which is also a tribute to Seat’s original Bocanegra, the 1200 Sport, which debuted in Spain in 1975, is very similar to the concept, Seat deciding to keep the black styling elements at its nose (black double headlights, central grille with honeycomb mesh and black surround including air vents). The front bumper, which also incorporated fog lights, combines black with the body color and is bigger at the bottom and over the wheel arches, giving the car a very aggressive look. At the back, the Bocanegra received honeycomb mesh on the side grids, new spoiler, chuncky wheel arches and a tinted rear window, plus a large “Bocanegra” badge on the rear hatch. The sporty look is completed by black door mirror housings, dark tinted sunroof and 17-inch Sira alloys. On the interior, the “angry” Ibiza got a special three-spoke steering wheel, sports seats upholstered with special fabric, gloss black trim, aluminium-clad pedals and the Bocanegra logo on the instrument panel. Under the hood, Seat will offer the Ibiza Bocanegra with the twin charged 1.4 liter TSI engine, available with 150 and 180 hp power output, mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox with paddle shifts mounted on the steering wheel. Seat hasn’t announced when the Bocanegra will go on sale or how much it will cost, but we’re definitely really excited about the car which promises to be one of the coolest and most fun to drive small cars around. And Alan Mulally, the Chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company is one of this 100 people in this year’s issue of the famous Time 100. Mulally graduated from the University of Kansas in 1969 with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering and was immediately hired by aeronautics giant Boeing where, in 1994, was promoted to senior vice president of Airplane Development. In 1997, Mulally became senior vice president and in 1998 he was named president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. For his performance at Boeing, Aviation Week & Space Technology named Mulally as person of the year for 2006. However, in 2006 Mulally decided to quit Boeing and chose a new challenge, by becoming the President and CEO of Ford Motor Company. Without doubt, one of Mulally’s main accomplisments is stabilizing Ford’s financial position and restructuring the company so it currently does not face the threat of bankruptcy unlike General Motors and Chrysler. Another interesting thing is that the Time article was written by Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft, one of the largest companies in the world. | The new Camaro to get Lingenfelter engine upgrades and body kit Posted: 05 May 2009 10:13 AM PDT  A couple of days ago US based Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has announced the first details about their future engine upgrades and body kit for the 2010 Chevy Camaro. The Lingenfelter body kit will include new front fascia and rocker extension, front Splitter, grille bar insert with wire mesh texture, new hood with air extractors, rear deck lip spoiler, rear fascia extension with exhaust tips and new rear tail lamp panel. As for the engine upgrades, there will be five packages available, each one boosting the power output and torque up to 550 hp (550 lbs-ft), 570 hp (570 lbs-ft), 650 hp (600 lbs-ft), 750 hp (685 lbs-ft) and 800 hp (800 lbs-ft). Extra details about the power upgrade packages after the jump. There were no procing details released, but we’ll probably get them closer to launch date, later summer.
